We make our Nantucket staves from kiln dried wood, The staves come in 50 & 100 foot packs. The stave material is 2 foot long & 1/16th of an inch thick. The wood is cut along the side grain so they do not splinter like staves made from the face grain of wood. All of the staves must be soaked before use. Unlike frozen green staves there is no special storage requirements.
If you want to make a sturdy long lasting Nantucket Basket you will want to use a wood stave. Many of the original Nantucket Baskets were made of Oak, Ash & Hickory.
If you would like a sample send a SAS legal size envelope with two stamps. Please be sure to specify what wood type you would like. Samples are 6 inch pieces.
